On Friday, the Bega Valley Shire Council proudly presented cheques to the 2025 ClubGRANTS recipients, showcasing the community’s commitment to supporting local projects that enhance welfare, inclusion, and wellbeing across the shire.
Community Support Initiatives:
Fourteen deserving community organisations were selected to receive funding for their impactful initiatives:
- Marine Rescue Bermagui: Funding will enable the replacement of batteries to maintain 24/7 marine radio and rescue services, ensuring the safety of all seafarers in the region.
- Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Regional Health and Community Services: A partnership with the University of Wollongong Bega campus will see the launch of a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice, promoting health education and empowerment within the community.
- Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service: With additional funding, the service plans to expand its community-led initiatives aimed at preventing domestic and family violence, creating a safer environment for all.
- Marine Rescue Eden: Upgrading computers will enhance rescue coordination and vessel monitoring capabilities, ensuring swift and efficient responses in times of emergency.
Inclusive Programs and Support:
Other recipients include Connections Plus Australia, which will deliver inclusive recreational activities for people with disabilities, fostering a sense of belonging and community engagement.
Sapphire Life Opportunities will set up a soup kitchen from its Merimbula food trailer, providing essential meals and support to those in need.
Pearls Place aims to host a heartwarming Christmas lunch in Pambula for individuals experiencing long-term disadvantage, spreading joy and festive cheer within the community.
Pambula Surf Life Saving Club will use the funding to purchase equipment for nippers, the Same Wave program, and Bronze Medallion trainees, ensuring the safety and skill development of participants.
Furthermore, the Burragate Rural Fire Brigade plans to enhance its emergency shelter capabilities by installing floor coverings in its fire shed/Neighbourhood Safer Place.
Empowerment and Education:
The Women’s Resource Centre will offer professional driving lessons to increase independence and employability, empowering individuals to access more opportunities.
Bega Valley Meals on Wheels will introduce a mobile seniors café, promoting social connection and combatting isolation among older residents.
Directions Health aims to continue its vital harm minimisation education for marginalised youth, supporting healthier choices and positive outcomes.
St Vincent de Paul Society will bring joy to families in need by providing gifts for children and Christmas food hampers, spreading goodwill and festive spirit.
Finally, Parkinson’s NSW will host a Community Education Seminar for individuals living with Parkinson’s, families, and carers, offering valuable information and support within the community.
These initiatives exemplify the spirit of community, collaboration, and support that define the Bega Valley Shire, creating a more inclusive and resilient region for all.
